More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a lead teacher at several childcare centers in Fort Worth before moved to Wichita Falls, Tx. In Wichita Falls I worked for a group home (CAS) Children's Aide Society & (TES) Teen Emergency Shelter, we were a transition house for children placed in CPS custody and teen emergency shelter. I also nannied for a couple of families.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Scavenger hunts are always fun, music dance offs, kid song karaoke, art and crafts and out door (back yard/ playground picnics while using our imagination. Plan a destination and read a book, sing a song and incorporate a meal, drink or dessert that represents the place originated. Art, science and history can utilize their senses such as taste, sight, smell and touch. Physical activities like kick ball, T-ball, bean bag toss, hop scotch tag are all fun as well as making sure they get plenty of exercise. There is also plenty of activities infants can do for sensory play!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is not to over step your boundaries. Sometimes the child/children can attach to the caregiver and choose not to listen to mom and dad and run to the caregiver for approval especially when being disciplined, that is not our place! Overall it's ensuring the family feels safe leaving their children in your care, that you are reliable, trustworthy and honest.
My experience with special needs children...
My experience in childcare has presented me with the opportunity to work and learn from children with autism on several levels. Each child on the spectrum has their own unique way of learning but building a trusting relationship is key for them. Working with what works for THEM not what's easiest for you! Patience is very important, it takes time and most often it's repetitive actions and words for them so consistency is vital.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment is when they make you feel like family and the children smile and get excited to see you, looking forward to a day together rather than being sad mom and dad are leaving which makes it harder on the child/children as well as mom & dad.
