Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Working with children has always been my dream career path since I was a preteen. Starting during that time I went with my older sisters to their babysitting jobs and always enjoyed helping out. Starting at 16 I began doing occasional babysitting on my own. In high school I took a class called “Childhood Development”. On Tuesdays we would learn material in the classroom but every other day we would work hands on with children in our on-site daycare. For a few months I worked with the 3-5 year olds, then I was moved up to work with the infants for the rest of the year. This was my absolute favorite part of high school and I would go to the infant room before school, during lunch, and after school. I would love to tell you stories of the infants in that room that I watched grow. After high school I worked in a daycare for the summer before moving to California for college. In California I worked at a Montessori school and it helped me grow tremendously!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
My favorite activities to do with children are science experiments! I love see children be able to explore and create new things through learning. With younger children I enjoy doing arts and crafts and dance parties (although they are usually better than me at that). With infants I find it fun to do tummy time because seeing how much stronger they get day by day is rewarding.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I believe the most important part about being a nanny is making sure that you can ensure the safety and enjoyment of the children and enable the parents to be worry free while you care for their children.
My experience with special needs children...
In the Montessori school I worked at, my classroom had 2 children with Autism, and one child with ADHD and severe aggression. Despite their particular needs, these children were all so bright and caring when supported correctly. It was a joy to learn and grow with them and it was very rewarding to gain this experience.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite “nanny” moment was actually when I worked at a school and not as a nanny. On my last day, many of the students in my classroom made crafts for me and gave them to me. It made me feel appreciated and I will always miss them!
