A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Rachel, I’m 23 years old, and I grew up caring for my 6 younger siblings as a sort of “second mom” around our abusive father, while our mother was our sole financial provider, often spending long hours at work, sometimes 60-80+ per week. I have basically grown up my entire life caring for young kids, due to my childhood upbringing, however I also have between 6mo-1yr of experience as a nanny for an 8 month old boy and an 8 year old girl. I worked in my church’s nursery on a weekly basis for several months as well, and I’ve also worked about 6-7 months as an “on-site/live-in” camp counselor for kids and teenagers in my late teen years. I am currently a Direct Support Professional for adults with special needs (from May 2023-present) but I would love to revisit working with young children as that’s where my heart truly is! I am also First Aid and CPR trained/certified

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I currently have a 14 month old nephew that my fiancé and I consistently spend time with on a weekly basis, watching TV, playing toys, bath times, etc, as well as going out to parks regularly, and sometimes just running errands with him tagging along as our little buddy.
I have a little less than 1 year experience as a full-time nanny for an 8 month old boy and a very active 8 year old girl.
I’ve also worked in my church’s nursery on a weekly basis for several months as a teenager, as well as worked 6-7 months at a Bible summer camp for kids/teenagers, in my late teen years, plus an additional week of experience working as a counselor at a special needs summer camp with individualized care for each camper (my specific camper had Down Syndrome)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love being out and about with children, going for walks/drives, parks, library, etc.
But I would be equally just as happy staying home to play toys, watch TV, and any other personalized activities :)

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, the most important part about being a nanny is making a positive and memorable impact on a young child’s life, enhancing their childhood as much as possible, and keeping safety the number 1 priority. I care very deeply about preserving the innocence of youth for as long as possible, and making childhood years as safe and enjoyable as I can. I do my best to provide children with the type of childhood that I wish I could’ve had

My experience with special needs children...

I do not have experience with very young special needs children, however I have over 3 years of very in-depth/long term experience with many varying ages (teen-elderly) that all have many different levels of special needs, ranging from simply “assisted living” to “high aggressive behaviors”. I normally work with lower functioning/higher behavior clients, I have changed colostomy bags, emptied catheters, changed adult diapers, some experience with oxygen machines, checked blood pressure/vitals, handled violent behaviors, and much more

The most important part about being a nanny...

When I was working my previous nanny job, the 8 year old girl I watched liked to play a game she called “ghost chaser”, she would hide somewhere in the house and make spooky sounds, while I would carry her 8 month old baby brother and wander around the house trying to locate the “ghost”, when we found her, she would chase us through the house, and her baby brother LOVED it, constant giggles from them both :)
