I volunteered at my church for most of my life in child services. Was head of the nursery and youth head on child services for 6+ years. I've babysat for plenty of families and have nannied 2.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love baking so as long as they're old enough, and you are comfortable, I love cooking and baking with them as they really seem to enjoy it. I also know how to play multiple instruments and love helping the kids learn or playing for them if they are interested. Also plenty of outside activities such as the park, walks around the neighborhood or just taking them out for a treat to get them out of the house.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being the child's friend. I'm not just someone who comes over watches your kid and leaves. I want to become their friend, make sure they trust me. The relationship nannies have with children should always prioritize that we are both people. I'm not their mom but I care about them. They need to know im not just there to "keep them in line" but keep them safe and make sure they feel loved by me as well. I'm not just someone authority figure but also their friend.
My experience with special needs children...
My cousin has special needs and is 8 years old now. Before college, I would babysit him and his younger siblings and it always went very well. I also have babysat other children with special needs and again has gone very well. My younger sibling also has autism so I was raised around children with special needs.
