Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy playing outside, riding bikes, going on walks, playing at the park! I used to have dance parties in families backyards with their children and we set up all their toys and stuffed animals to perform to. On rainy days or unfortunate weather conditions I try to look on the bright side. I take the kids outside to play in puddles and do scavenger hunts (finding bugs, flowers, bird sounds, etc) and then afterwards come inside to clean up and read books or do some sort of art.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is not only communication with parents/guardians, and knowing how they need things to go, but to be patient with the child. I’ve noticed people can be hard on the kids that they are babysitting or nannying, but being patient and kind with the child comes first and is the best way to build a stronger connection, and to assure them that they are safe.
My experience with special needs children...
Since I was a direct support professional, and swim coach, I have worked with special needs children quite often. I learn before hand a little about what they need for accommodations, as well as their boundaries. I then in person learn their mannerisms and behaviors to build a stronger connection as well as helping them grow!
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when I was watching two sisters and they happened to get into some conflict, we then all sat together, I let both sisters share how they felt, they acknowledged each other, and hugged it out. Afterwards they were so happy and we walked to the park together and had the best time!
