More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I started babysitting services at the young age of 12. I have always enjoyed caring for children, of all ages, and teaching them new things through games, art & music!
I have taught Sunday school classes, for many years, and have gained considerable insight into the different ways children learn, as unique as their personalities. Each child has different skills and abilities, on varying levels, were born with or are able to learn through patient one-on-one teaching.
Therefore, I don’t believe in cookie-cutter formulas for educating children in general. I believe it’s important to get to know a child’s personality, as well as what level they may be working on, before deciding on a teaching strategy in any given subject.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy teaching children through creative art projects, songs to aid memory retention, and games to develop physical skills as well as generating laughter!
I also enjoy teaching children/teenagers photography skills, composition, and collage framing. Additionally, I enjoy taking youth out on hikes for nature photography to develop an eye for all the beautiful things around us, that we often take for granted.
And while I believe screen time should be minimal, according to age of child etc., I do enjoy watching quality programming with children/teenagers when a relaxing activity is called for. I believe it’s important to follow up w/a discussion of how they may have enjoyed the program, or not. For older children, I believe this helps formulate opinions on what they may like, and/or dislike. And with children of all ages, I like to encourage a discussion of the plot and characters, including which may be their favorites. This type of discussion also helps develop communication skills.

The most important part about being a nanny...
It is vital to help the child feel safe and aware that you are caring for them exactly as their mommy &/or daddy wishes, and that you are there for them.
A nanny must purpose to help the child understand that their parent has placed them in their care because they love them and want them to be well cared for. Conversely, if a nanny fails to do this, the child may feel neglected by their parent, in their absence.
Thus I like to have family pictures nearby so when they are missing one of their parents, I may help them process their feelings and talk about special memories they have (of what they’ve already done with them), and/or fun things they are hoping to do when they see them again. (And then of course this info. may be passed along to the parent/s.)
The second most important thing I believe is being a good example who the child may look up to, because so much is taught not by what we say, but by what we do.

My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for a blind child, children in wheelchairs, crutches, and children with ADHD and autism.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite Nanny moments was when I was asked, “Ms. Rhonda, will I know you all my life, like will you even come to my wedding?” (This was from a young girl about 7 years old, & really planning ahead!)
Another moment I’ll never forget is when a young child observed me helping resolve a conflict, and then said, “I want to be what you are when I grow up.”
So I asked ”And what is that?” (so I could understand what they saw my job as being..)
And the child innocently replied, “A peacemaker.”
