The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is my core ethic of love, patience and compassion. As I was a crazy child & slow processor, I fully understand how needs vary with children and must be engaged with accordingly and always with patience and love. From these values, I guide nannying sessions from a place of creativity, imagination, fun and understanding that the child is learning from me but of course, I am also learning from the child!
My experience with special needs children...
Two months experience with a boy who is on the autism spectrum. As I was nannying a group of four we had to disembark the group but for those two months, I had a wonderful time with the boy & learned quickly how to meet his needs. For example, he loved to put my hair in his mouth & tug on it, so after a week of noticing this habit, I brought a brush and bag of clips and scrunchies to he could indulge his habit without hurting my heard. He then learned to play hairstylist & we truly were two peas in a pod!
