More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My first job at 13 was babysitting, and I kind of just never stopped. I was a nanny by the age of 18 and worked at daycares, as a classroom teacher, teaching swimming to kids, teaching yoga to children-- just about every single job in my lifetime has included working with children. At the end of the day, it is the profession I have found that brings me the most joy.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love helping children learn through play. With the younger kids I am a big fan of play that contributes to the development of their fine motor skills. I am also a big fan of taking kids to museums and other fun pop-up events catered to children. Parks, baking things, art projects, and interactive educational games are some of my favorites.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think the most important part of being a nanny is to make sure that I am someone in the children's lives that enhances their life. When they look back on their childhood, I want the kids to remember me as someone who brought fun, joy, patience, peace, and a whole lot of love into their homes. If the children and parents are safe, secured, and happy-- my job is done.

My experience with special needs children...

During my undergraduate degree in elementary education, I took courses on working with children who have special needs (or skills as I like to call them) and worked closely with children who were ESL and on the spectrum.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite memories that I still talk about with one of the girls I used to nanny for is one day when I picked up her and her sister up from elementary school. As we got onto the highway, 5 year old Vanessa was telling me from the backseat about this really cool game she learned in school. She said she wanted us both to play it right that second, so I agreed. Again, we are getting on to the highway and I am driving the car. Vanessa says "Okay, lets start. Sallie-- close your eyes..." and the three of us laughed and laughed and laughed.
