More About Me
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Painting, collecting nature outside such as: different colored leaves, fallen flowers, twigs, small stones, ect and using what we find for arts and crafts, going to the library for public book readings, as well as interactive playing with other children, and not to forget, picking out bed time/nap time books to read. For those extra rainy days, I like to suggest show and tell since it's an activity that is not only really exciting for the kiddos to participate in, but it's also an activity that easily gets them fully engaged! Show and tells start with the child or children "brainstorming" on what they want to show and tell the audience, once they figured out what that will be, they get x amount of time to come up with their "performance" (skit/ presentation) when they're ready, they can jump on stage and wow the audience with their show and tell performance! Often times, the item the child chooses will be played with throughout day, which I find to be a great way to integrate old toys.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Is being receptive and intune with the children's emotions. Emotions can be very big for such little kiddos! Being able to recognize when a child is feeling big emotions and working through that with them is SO important because it not only teaches them to also recognize when they are feeling overwhelmed by big emotions, but long term will help them learn how to talk about their feelings, process their emotions, and learn healthy ways to release big emotions that need to be released. Big emotions can be excitement, nervousness (anxiety), sadness, disappointment or even jealousy. Knowing how these emotions can be very overwhelming to feel when you're unable to recognize them, and how not being able to recognize, communicate about or process these emotions will can cause them to manifest as tantrums, outbursts or withdrawn behaviors is why I feel that being able to be receptive and intune with the children's emotions is one of the most important skills any nanny should have.
