A little bit about me

Hello!
My name is Sarah, and I have close to two years of childcare experience. I'm a current linguistics major, versed in Norwegian and would be able to teach it at an elementary level if desired. I've worked with children ages 2 to 19 and am skilled in housework, clean eating meal prepping, child development, and have experience in behavioral psychology.
In my free time, I enjoy the arts, which I’ve found to be especially beneficial for engaging special needs students.
I love the outdoors and being as close to the water as possible (for painting opportunities)!
I can provide references, am willing to move anywhere to be closer to work, and can work a live-in position. I look forward to speaking with you about your child or children!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked at three different schools doing before and after school care for ages 2 to 14 in Orange County. At my current job I look after high school students in the morning and make sure they are present and on schedule, ready for their day of classes and school activities.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Anything active, such as hiking, swimming, and sports. I'm a big believer in the arts and expressing ourselves through creativity, especially at a young age. Reading is a favorite and story time is something I will always hope to get children to participate in. Expressing our imagination is a practice I feel that gets overlooked, but can build strong leaders and generate good social skills in young minds.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Safety and expression. I think while we grow, knowing we have safety while living, but also safety to express ourselves is what builds the foundation of character and success. Being active and connecting with the roots of ourselves in childhood develops an unshakeable mentality that's vital to remain strong throughout life. When children develop, nourishing a growth mindset is essential. I think being able to curate the confidence to grow within a child is the most crucial part of the job.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with special needs students in previous jobs. I understand the heart and love that the job requires. I grew up with ADHD and undiagnosed OCD. I found while working with my students with Asperger Syndrome and Autism that creativity and expression lights students up as much as it did for me when I was their age. I am patient and my approach will always be with understanding, engagement, and mindfulness.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had a wonderfully bright student, as all my students have been, with a keen curiosity for learning. I was learning Japanese at the time and the first time I spoke to him his eyes lit up. He spoke to me in Japanese from that day on despite my elementary knowledge. It really encouraged me to learn more. There's not a thing I wouldn't learn for the benefit of the kids I take care of. If it means making them comfortable, safe, and well taken care of, there's no length I won't go.
