More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was 13 and I worked with a 1 year old till she was 5 years old. I got paid 10 dollars a day to babysit from 3:30pm to 9:00pm and, at other times, 11:00 pm. They had moved, so I wasn't able to babysit anymore.

I worked with another parent. I was 15. She had a 6-year-old granddaughter that had a diagnosis of autism and some other diagnoses. I got paid 10 dollars an hour and was also flexible with their schedule. She didn't end up needing me there, so there was a period of time when I took off and sometimes would still help out here and there, but she is a great reference to contact. I have a few other people if needed, but these are two I have had more experience with and have known over the years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Gardening, making a mini garden in a box or tubs, any sports they might be interested in painting, going for a walk, setting out made-up games to just play. I have a karaoke machine where they can sing into the mic, rock paint, ride a bike, a scooter or read a short story to the kids or kids, play bowling with plastic pins that can be set up outside or inside, chalk.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To make sure the child is safe and healthy and happy and to make them feel loved and communicate even if that's a different way to meet their needs and to validate their needs and wants, but knowing a limit to make sure the child is safe and healthy as well. And encouraging them to get back up and giving them advice on a way to handle it or do it differently next time in a way that will be better and or helpful in the long run.

My experience with special needs children...

I worked with one child that had autism. She wasn't verbal. Some other issues I am not sure of. She could not form a full sentence and she had trouble using even key words, but she had gotten better at forming key words, so it was better to understand what she wanted and needed for herself.

The most important part about being a nanny...

In general, watching children grow up and just being able to be part of an amazing experience in their life, even if it's just for a while.
