My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with non verbal children, and children with autism. Personally I just took my time with them. I allowed them to warm up to me with out me forcing myself on them because they don’t know me at first. I find it better to be patient, and super caring as if they were mine. That goes for any of the kids in my care.
