A little bit about me

My name is Shannon, I have been in the childcare field for over 20 years. I have been a babysitter for children since I was 15, and I was a nanny for two wonderful girls from the ages of 6months/2years until they were 7 years/9years. I have works in the childcare setting with children from 6 weeks through age 12. At my summer church camp I work primarily with first and second graders and with ninth through 12th graders. I enjoy the younger kids because each day they seem to do something new. I enjoy spending time with the older children because I can begin to have conversations with them and enjoy spending time with them as they learn to navigate the world! In my free time I can begin found coloring, riding horses or playing my guitar at church. I love spending time at home with my husband and my dog Nyla.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been working in Early Childcare Centers since 2003 with only a year or two away when I worked on a horse farm while finishing my degree. I have my associates degree from NCC in ECE which I earned in 2015. I have worked in NACEY 4 star centers as well as centers just starting(brand new and just opening!) I love working with infants but I also love watching my kids continue to grow as they move from room to room within the center. I do not have children of my own (besides a special needs dog) so these kiddos are for lack of other words, my kids. I treat them with the respect and love I would treat my own flesh and blood. I love art projects, taking nature walks, and adventuring to different places (as the kids grow) I did nanny for two young girls (starting ages: 6 months and 2.5 years) a long time ago. Those girls are still in my life now that they are 19 and almost 22! I believe that the kids I care for become my kids for life!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts and crafts, walks, nature walks, creek exploring, adventuring to places as the kids grow (simple store trips, to going to amusement parks and anything in between!)

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny, other than making sure the children are loved and well cared for, is the bonds we form. I love that after many years of not being a nanny for a client anymore, her now grown children still call me and ask me to come over and have dinner. We form bonds that make the children I care for more than just children, but they become my family. As the now 19 year old recently told me, “You were my fun aunt, I wanted to go do things with you!”
