A little bit about me

Aloha! I was born and raised on Maui, then moved to Colorado in 2015 for college. I graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I would describe myself as being very relational and nurturing. I have always had an interest in pursuing careers that involve helping people. Prior to nannying, I worked in schools with students in special ed. I have also volunteered a lot of time to work with kids and adults with special needs, and well as interned at an older adults day centers/nursing home. Throughout these different experiences, I have found that working with children brings me the greatest joy. I find the joy (and sometimes chaos) of working with these little humans so fun and rewarding. I prioritize teaching kindness, gentleness, and patience when working with kids, as well as encourage creativity and outdoor exploration. I moved back to Maui last year and am looking forward to continuing nannying on this beautiful island!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked at a middle school as a paraprofessional working with students who needed additional support in the classroom due to various disabilities. I also worked at a high school as a paraprofessional in the severe autism program. Throughout college I volunteered for various organizations involving childcare, such as at a program that helps adopted and foster care children. I started nannying/babysitting after I graduated college in 2019. Since then, I’ve worked with children ranging from 10 months old to 14 years old. I’ve overnight nannied, worked with up to 5 kids at a time, as well as provided my services to families on vacation.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it’s going to the park, beach, exploring nature, or even spending time out in the backyard. I like arts and crafts, especially painting and drawing. I also like to encourage reading books with kids and think library visits are fun!

Treating a child how any person would like to be treated - with respect and kindness.

My experience with special needs children...

I worked with middle schoolers with IEP’s in an integrated classroom setting. I also worked with high schoolers who had autism, Down syndrome, and other disabilities. Throughout high school and college, I was involved and held leadership positions with Best Buddies chapters on Maui and Colorado.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I find it very rewarding and sweet when I start to see signs that a child wants to be comforted by me (e.g. if they get hurt or are upset and want a hug or to be carried by you). This is always encouraging because it shows me that the child feels safe and a bond is being formed.
