Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I used to work at Chuck-e-Cheese’s and there would be a lot of children that’d be dropped off with their friends and the parents would leave and come back later. Some of the kids were very young and should have had a parent or guardian with them. They didn’t fit in with the older kids and would wind up crying because they were alone. So me and a lot of the other employees would chip in and play with the younger kids. Keeping them company until the parents came back. Sometimes we’d take them into the staff rooms so they could have quiet naps because a lot of them were under 4 years old.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny to me in my opinion is being able to keep both the kids and parents happy. Being a parent is hard and it’s extra hard when trying to balance a life and work outside of your child. No one can do it all, and a lot of times it winds up being stressful for everybody because taking on too much can mean neglecting certain important things. I think babysitters and nannies are really good at keeping both happy and I enjoy that the most about what I do.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I was babysitting late one evening because the parents were late coming back from work that day. I had asked the kids if they wanted to help me make spaghetti and I was teaching them how to stir the sauce while it was on low heat. They were doing super well and I was convinced they’d be talented chefs when they grew up. One of the kids had went and leaned a bit too far over the pot and all the sauce spilled over each of us. It was VERY slippery and we spent about 10 minutes slipping and sliding in our shoes from all the sauce. We each took a shower and danced to some music while we cleaned up. By the time we finished remaking the spaghetti their parents were home and everyone got to eat together.
