Hi! My name is Shelbie. I am 27 years old and the oldest of 5. I received my bachelor’s in social work in 2018. I have experience with both part time and full time childcare starting at the age of 14. My experience is with children ranging in age from premature infant to 13 years. I am very organized and am comfortable helping to provide structure to your child's daily routine. I have experience with advanced meal preparation, tidying, organization, nap and sleep routines, summer school programming, providing multi-child care and care for children with behavioral and emotional needs. I am very laid back, have strong communication skills and am able to adapt to your child's specific needs. I love spending time outside when the weather permits, but also enjoy guiding children through arts, crafts and other indoor activities on days when its too rainy or snowy. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

After obtaining my bachelor's in social work, I was hired at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) as a child welfare social worker. I completed my internship here for 2 semesters during university and then began working full time upon graduation. Due to changes brought about with Covid, I am looking to get back into a more personable and interactive position. I have always enjoyed working with children and my time with MDHHS was spent in a position in child welfare.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am an avid lover of the outdoors and love taking walks and spending time outside. I am a creative individual, so I naturally enjoy doing age-appropriate arts, crafts and project with kiddos. I enjoy reading books, engaging children in play activities.

My experience with special needs children...

My first babysitting position was with a then-18 month old who has been diagnosed as on the spectrum. My youngest brother is also on the spectrum, has speech apraxia, ADHD as well as behavioral diagnoses. At my current job as a social worker, I carry a caseload of children that I see regularly, many of whom have an array of behavioral, emotional, mental health and other diagnoses. At my current position, I work with children ages premature newborn-17 years.
