Hello! My name is Shelby. I'm 26 and I have three years of experience being one of my five-year-old niece's caretakers. I've spent the summer of 2023 working at a Daycare/Preschool with children ages one to five. I have a B.S. in Psychology from Tennessee Tech, and I will soon be First Aid and CPR certified. I go to church at Morrison Hill Church in Kingston, and my husband and I teach a toddler sunday school class there. Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have three years of experience being one of my five-year-old niece's caretakers, from age two to five. I've spent the summer of 2023 working at a Daycare/Preschool with children ages one to five. I also babysat a 1 and 3 year-old throughout high school and briefly nannied for a family with 3 children in college. Also, my husband and I recently began teaching a toddler sunday school class.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Play-based learning, storytime, crafts, playing tag outside, facilitating their ability to create games on their own with rules and objectives, play-based exercise, facilitating their ability to help with chores and basic needs of their own in fun ways (Montessori-style), and general child-led play. I'm energetic and love playing with kids! My goal is always to create a safe but freeing environment where I'm not controlling every activity but am safeguarding the children at all times.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with a 5 year old boy with autism, and this experience was very edifying, as I was constantly needed by him 1:1 while having many other children in my care at the same time (a general ed preschool class). Caring for him strengthened my ability to use multiple approaches to meet diverse student needs. I loved my experience caring for him!
