A little bit about me

Few things bring me greater joy than playing with and caring for little ones. I’ve worked with children of all ages, from 2 months to 11 years. My charges’ health and well being are my priority. I’m familiar with the unique needs of infants, and also able to provide the sort of enriching activities which older children crave. In a city which is constantly whirring with noise and business, I provide my charges with calmness, consistency, and the opportunity to stop and smell the roses (literally and figuratively). Having grown up here, it’s always fun to take my charges to some of my old childhood haunts. I’ve had a warm and fruitful relationship with each of the families for whom I’ve worked, and am grateful for every one of them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I see great value in prioritising the basics. I want my charges to be safe, well rested, hydrated, get plenty of fresh air and exercise, eat nourishing foods, and receive connection and emotional support. I find that when a child’s basic needs are met, all the rest falls into place. It’s vital that I be fully present, which is I why I don’t spend time on my phone when I’m with children. It’s also crucial for me to model patience, kindness and respect, while also setting consistent boundaries. As a sort of “third parent” in the household, I also value assertive communication with parents so that we’re consistently on the same page in regard to the children.

My experience with special needs children...

I have extensive experience with children who have ADHD.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When one of my charges was 3, I started a tradition of having a dolls’ Christmas party. I’d make tiny food, serve milk, tea, or hot cocoa, use tiny crockery, and we’d invite 2-3 of my charge’s favourite dolls or teddies. We’d then sit at the coffee table with a place setting for each of the dolls, my charge, and myself. We’d enjoy tea and each share our favourite thing about Christmas. Then, the Christmas Fairy would have come! I’d tie a gift for each doll (a doll sized accessory or toy) to the Christmas tree, and my charge took great pleasure in finding the presents and helping each of his dolls unwrap them. We’d then play games with the dolls, such as hide and seek or charades. It was so special to witness the joy in my charge, and we did this for many years.
