I worked in special needs for 12 years
The most important part about being a nanny...
I haven't been a nanny as much as working in the schools, but I've got to say...
1) When I was teaching a 3rd grade math lesson and the students really caught on. (Substituting and the lead teacher told me I did a great job teaching that lesson.)
2) In pre-k, we were on an assignment that required building a habitat for worms. One of the girls did not want to touch the worm so I told her that she can get over the fear just by doing it. I still have a picture of her facial expression. She did not mind touching them after. That was an incredible feat for a 4–5-year-old.
3) When I worked with a special needs child who would bite their finger till it bled, I was able to get him to stop.
4) when I was a mentor in the Mentoring Program, and they'd give me the "complex" children. I had one who lacked self-control, saw him and his mom at a doctor's office, she thanked me, and he was in complete control over himself by his teenage years.
To say there's a favorite would be to say there's a least
