A little bit about me

Hi, I’m Simone I've worked in varying types of childcare since I was a young teen and always knew I wanted to be a teacher or caregiver of so kind to kids. My motivations to do so have certainly evolved though, I now take great pride in my work and simply adore being able to help children discover and learn. I love the outdoors, exploring it with children, and creating and discovering new fun ways to teach children and support them in their development.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked with children specifically aged three to five for over 8 years at a summer camp in Massachusetts. I worked my way up from jr. assistant to the main coordinator for the three to five programs. During which I planned schedules and daily adventures, trips, and activities. I also spent some months of my gap year before college volunteering in a community in India where I played with the children in the preschool and helped to provide care. I got my Early Childhood Education diploma from St. Clare college in Windsor Ontario, which closed many gaps in my childcare knowledge. I then spent a school year nannying for a family with an 8-year-old and a 4-year-old with an autism diagnosis, this was an extremely fun, and educational year for me. I am always trying to improve and learn more about childcare as it is a constantly developing field. I now plan on moving back to Western Massachusetts by mid-August and am exceedingly excited to see the childcare opportunities for me there.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love exploring nature with children, be that gardening going for a walk in the woods, or just watching wildlife. I have a passion for working with children to create educational activities that they will enjoy. I tend to follow the child's lead in activities and try to incorporate learning naturally as well.

The most important part about being a nanny...

In my opinion, there are many important aspects to being a nanny though what is most important is dependent on the family. I think qualities like punctuality, patience, and organization are always needed though what each family and child needs differ greatly. Though in the end, I'm sure dependability is the most needed by all a quality I’m proud to poses.

My experience with special needs children...

I spent the last school year nannying for a 4-year-old boy with an autism diagnosis and his 8-year-old sister. This was an incredibly educational and fun year for me. The boy was manly non-verbal so he and I became very good at communicating physically through hand gestures and the like, those I also used verbal communication as well. Watching his growth through my year working with him has by far been the most rewarding work I’ve done yet. It was also wonderful to be able to bring my skills to the family and work on solutions together to give him the best support we all could.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have so many wonderful little memories from nannying, from games to meals to walks. Though one of my more rewarding memories was of working with the boy I was nannying. His parents and I had been trying to get him to stop his habit of sitting with splayed knees though it was not easy. After a few weeks of helping him physically change his seating position when he sat like that while explaining to him “why we can not sit like that”, I saw him sitting with splayed knees and said “you know we can't sit like that because it will hurt you” he looked at me and stretched his legs out in front of him. This was an extremely gratifying turning point where after that he often listened to me when I asked him to sit differently, it took weeks but I know it saved him a lot of future knee pain so I was beyond happy with the progress.

My experience with children dates back to being a teen and seeing children as our most valuable resources. I am a conscientious and mature woman, who pays close attention to children, while offering tutoring and challenging them to "think outside the box". I believe that increasing their abstract thought processes will enable them to become problem-solving adults (in work as well as in relationships).
