A little bit about me

Hi, my name is Sonal! I love working with youth of any age! While I have no experience as a conventional nanny, I have loads of experience working with children. I have worked as a Foster Care Case Aide, transporting foster youth between appointments, supervising visits between with their biological parents and always acting in their best interest. I have also worked as an after-school teacher for many years (i.e. teaching dance, arts, leading dialogue, etc.). I've worked as a youth program facilitator for 3 years now as well. I have babysat for many coworkers, family and friends and have loved every moment of it! I am CPR/First-Aid/AED certified and am confident in my de-escalation and social skills! I am also an excellent communicator and problem solver. I graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and International studies and would love to teach your children as well! Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Foster Care Case Aide (Vancouver, WA): transported foster youth, supervised visits with families, spent "fun" days together (reading, shopping, playing in park, etc.)

Youth program facilitator (Washington, DC): worked with international youth (ages 10-18) on educational programming and project planning.

After-School Teacher (Spokane, WA and Portland, OR): taught dance, arts, led dialogue, led workshops with students aged 5-18 in school settings.

Spanish Tutor (Spokane, WA): Tutored elementary-college aged students in Spanish.

NE Youth Center (Spokane, WA): Volunteered at youth center events with my partner, Tristan, who worked there full-time. Activities included sports, game nights, photo booths, holiday celebrations, etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Building trust and friendship! I remember going to my nannies with anything from hurt to happiness. As a nanny, I want to support my kiddos in as many ways as they will let me.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with special needs adults, however none with children. I am confident in my ability to apply what I know to different age groups. I am also happy to attend trainings/speak with parents about how to best care for their children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had been working with a group of elementary students for several weeks teaching after school creative movement and all of a sudden one of my students burst out crying when we were doing our closing circle. I asked her what was wrong and she told me they were tears of joy and sadness. She was so happy to have met me as her dance teacher and so sad that she had to leave me to go home. She said classes with me were the best days of her life!
