The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny, before everything else, is safety. It is making sure the children are always in a safe environment, playing safely, and staying away from anything or anyone that could be a risk to them.
My experience with special needs children...
I have nannied for children with various disabilities, including autism, severe ADHD, and anger management issues. I am a very patient person and parents are often surprised with how well I connect with their children that have disabilities and the relationships we form.
When nannying an 8 year old boy with autism, I would work take him to occupational therapy and work with him on the simple skills and tasks the therapist assigned as "homework." I also helped with his potty-training and reading/writing.

The most important part about being a nanny...
There are so many amazing moments that I cherish from each summer and family, but I think my favorite is when a 4 year old girl I was nannying swam for the first time. I took her and her older brother to swim practice every morning, but most days she would crying on the edge of the pool not wanting to go in. On those days, I would play games with her in the water after practice, teaching her how to swim without her realizing it and without all the pressure of practice. Watching how proud and excited she was when she finally swam on her own was the most rewarding feeling.
At the end of the summer she showed me a worksheet her preschool gave as summer work and she had written my name on the line next to the person I love most. Below it asked "Why?" and one of the reasons she put was "because I am not scared when I am with her." She explained it by telling me "like at the pool."

Babysitter Available in San Diego, CA: Elabela R.
Hello!
I'm a student studying at UC San Diego. I have about a year of paid babysitting experience, but much more unpaid experience (having grown up with many younger siblings). I've babysat for several families, often with multiple kids of varying ages at once. Besides that, I've been a volunteer art teacher at a preschool for 3 years.
I'm offering help with homework, meals, and animals, along with babysitting. I speak both French and English fluently, as well as strong Mandarin. I'm mainly looking for a part-time commitment on weekends and afternoons during weekdays. This is mainly because I'd still like to attend my university classes and would prefer to stay around the La Jolla Farms area.
