A little bit about me

My name is Susan, and I identify as a Christian. After working in a public-school setting for over 10 years, I want to transition to a governess/nanny career with a family. I am a child advocate who is highly trained to work with children who suffer from social emotional impairments and high functioning autism: child crisis grief bereavement, therapeutic counseling, and monitoring, evaluation, and analysis of children in crisis. I have strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills that are complemented by exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and organizational leadership. I instruct effective social and executive functioning skills and communication strategies and teach core academics in an engaged, collaborative manner with client confidentiality and integrity.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I spent 10 years working with third -twelfth grade students at public Therapeutic Day School and working with after school programs and remote tutoring with Community Schools. I also taught Middle School MCAS ELA with Educational Divide Reform.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I instruct arts and crafts 1:1 and in group settings up to 30: making jewelry, loom weaving, woodwork, mural, canvas, and water painting, or sort of creative project. I enjoy hiking, nature walks, biking, swimming, coloring, playing board and card games, writing, and reading.

The relationships that develop from working with children are the most rewarding part of my position because I truly enjoy being a positive role model in the lives of children.

My experience with special needs children...

I have ten years of experience working with children who suffer from social emotional impairments and to whom live in temporary residencies: foster care, homeless shelters, group homes, and low-income housing: child crisis grief bereavement, therapeutic counseling, and monitoring, evaluation, and analysis of children in crisis. Most of my experience is with children who have high functioning autism, attention deficits, down syndrome, moderate learning disabilities, and severe trauma impairments.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moment was the day a child drew me in his family picture. His siblings and parents were standing with him looking up in the sky where I was sitting on a cloud. Most of my best moments have been spent doing things that make me look silly but bring laughter to children.
