A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Taina. I am 18 years old and a freshman at Baruch College. I've been working with children since I was 13 years old, starting with my small relatives. I am presently a part-time inclusion counselor at the YHMA. On my free time I am either studying to become a lawyer or working out at the gym ( specifically strength-training). I am enthusiastic, outgoing, spirted, have lots of energy and generally good at all subjects. To add, I am creative so there are lots of arts and crafts ideas in my brain. I love fun and all, but I always make sure theres time to do the not so fun BUT mandatory stuff ( homework/bedtime ). Lastly, I have experience with children from infants to double digits. I love the energy that comes from being around children and I don't think there is any other feeling that's more fulfilling <3.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I began by babysitting for my aunt while she was at work, tutoring my cousin. Through the Familial grapevine, other aunts and cousins would come to my house if they needed babysitting. After this I tried to look for a more permanent job. I worked as a counselor for first graders in the summer of 2021. In 2022- Present, I work at the YWHA in their Sunday Inclusion Program, "Sunday Funday". I also substitute for their weekday program, "Be Me". In both Programs I am an inclusion counselor and work with children from K-5.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Hard question since this is New York and there is a ton of opportunities to have fun. However, I do enjoy going to trampoline parks, carousel at Bryant Park, and the Children's Museum of Manhattan.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe that being a nanny gives you the chance to build a genuine connection with the children you watch over. Being an afterschool teacher doesn't allow you to build that bond further since you interact with so many children. It's a different feeling to create genuine connections with the parents as well. I

My experience with special needs children...

My cousin is autistic and growing up I was always watching over him. When I got old enough, my aunt started paying me to help him with his homework, meal prep and pick him up from school. Currently, I am an inclusion counselor and work with a group of children who are all on the spectrum. We work on social skills and ways to deal with any issues they may run into being neuro-divergent.
