My experience with special needs children...
I was a one on one aide with a Asperger Autistic student for 4 year. I worked as an ParaEducator for the special education dept. I assisted within the entire 8th grade in an inclusive classroom environment. Duties included, taking notes, adjusting assignments to meet the IEP goals, teaching organization skills and assisting in life skills, test prompting, one on one homework help.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One time I was at a nanny job and the 3 children had never seen the movie Polar Express. After getting permission from the parents, I transformed the living room into a train ride movies theme night. We had movie tickets, conductor outfits and best of all popcorn! The smile on their faces were priceless. It was so much fun.
