The most important part about being a nanny...
Nothing is more special to me than knowing I have made a child feel seen and loved. I believe every child deserves to know how meaningful they are, no matter the age, no matter the circumstances. It is why I love childcare so much... I have the opportunity to make sure the child I take care of knows that about themself, every second of every day.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for prematurely born twins who both had brain bleeds and resulting physical and mental development difficulties, as well as an epileptic little boy who often struggled with seizures.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I was once taking care of a pair of teething twins who hadn't been sleeping. One day, when I couldn't think of anything else to do, I laid them both in my arms and sat in the rocking chair, rocking and singing to them in hopes of finally soothing them. After a little while, I realized they had both fallen asleep, one on each arm. It was one of the sweetest things I had ever experienced. Every time I stopped singing or rocking, they began to shift and whimper in their sleep, so we just stayed like that. For hours I rocked and sang, while they finally, finally got the sleep they needed. It remains one of the purest and simplest memories I have from my many years of childcare.
