Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love staying occupied. I don’t like having a lot of free time. Therefore, I have developed lots of ideas to occupy children. I love playing or creating games. I love creative crafts. I also love being active outdoors (weather permitting). I understand screen time is a large part of children’s upbringing these days, so I encourage group activities or games involving screens.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Making the children feel heard. I never want to be in a dictatorship position. I believe it is important to value what children have to say, even if it may not be logical at first.
My experience with special needs children...
At the last church I went to, I volunteered for the children’s service. During my time there, I was nominated to care for a special needs kid who would now attend the services. Rowan was blind as well as on the autism spectrum as high functioning and non-verbal. It took a lot of time to gain his trust; however, after our first service together we became very close. I looked forward to our time together every week. I loved figuring out ways to communicate and comfort him. His parents eventually stopped attending services, so he stopped coming. I will never forget the time I got to spend with Rowan.
