The most important part about being a nanny...
For me, the most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, nurturing space where a child feels deeply seen, heard, and held, emotionally, physically, and energetically. It’s more than just supervising or following routines. It’s about being intentional with your energy, present in the moment, and responsive to a child’s unique needs and spirit. I believe children are naturally intuitive and absorb so much from their environment, so showing up with love, patience, and grounding is essential. As someone rooted in a culture that values community and care, I see nannying as sacred work, it’s about guiding, protecting, and honoring the growth of a little soul.
My experience with special needs children...
While working as a teacher assistant, I had the opportunity to support children with special needs in a preschool setting. I helped create a calm, structured environment that catered to each child’s individual needs—whether that meant offering extra patience during transitions, using visual aids for communication, or incorporating sensory-friendly activities. I learned how important it is to approach every child with compassion, flexibility, and consistency, and I truly value the experience it gave me in being attentive and supportive in more individualized ways.
The most important part about being a nanny...
A favorite nanny moment I’ve experienced while caring for a child happened during a quiet afternoon with a newborn. The baby was unsettled, and instead of rushing to fix it, I took a moment to ground myself. I held them close, placed my hand gently on their back, and just focused on being fully present, breathing slowly, offering calm energy, and humming a soft tune. Gradually, the baby’s energy shifted, and they melted into sleep. In that moment, I realized how sacred caregiving is. It’s not just physical, it’s energetic, intuitive, and deeply spiritual. As a Nigerian woman rooted in ancestral wisdom, I believe children feel the peace we carry. That experience reminded me that nurturing is a form of energetic alignment, where love, calm, and presence become healing forces.
