A little bit about me

Hello! I am Valerie Lefler. I love kids and animals, however I spent the last 20 years working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Now I want to get back to spending time with children. I was a nanny for 6 years (college and after).
I have spent the last two years teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) online to children in Asian countries. Due to recent changes in China, I had to say a sad “goodbye” to my students. Now it is time to move on!
My 3 nieces (2, 5 and 8 years) are my loves! I spend as much time as I can with them. They remind me how to find joy, laughter and adventure everyday.
I also have a husband, 2 adult children, 2 cats and 1 dog.
I am active and creative. I prefer crafts, nature, reading, cooking, music etc. Instead of screen time, but I know there is a time and place for it all.
I am responsible, reliable and patient. I have cared for kids of all ages, to include 4 kids under the age of 5 & 2 sets of twins.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe that the most important thing I can do as a nanny, is to create a safe, loving, creative, fun environment, based on each individual child’s needs and wants.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for a child with Down Syndrome and 2 children with Autism.
I realize that every child and every situation is unique. My experience, while not extensive, has at least, allowed me to know the importance of taking cues from the family about meal, play, homework time. I have also learned to keep trying different ways to communicate, until something makes sense or is fun that child.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have been lucky to have had so many incredible moments with children!
I love to see the pride on children’s faces when they learn new skills; walking, talking, the alphabet, math, reading, how to cook etc.
One of my best memories is watching some of the children I have been a nanny for, graduate from high school and go on to college and so many great adventures! (Yikes! That makes me old:)!
