A little bit about me

Hi there! My name is Victoria Escamilla, and I am a 20 year old college student. I am majoring in early childhood education! I have two years at Missouri State University under my belt, with a current “gap” year at Ozarks Technical Community College. I’m in between deciding to transfer back to MSU, or transfer to another institution after my time at OTC. I am pursuing a bachelor degree, regardless!

I currently work in a private school, I have experience in various environments with children ages 0-12; from babysitting at home to Headstart to my current job- and would love to be an addition to a family in need of care! I have a passion for cultivating proper early childhood development by teaching necessary skills while simultaneously encouraging independence & play in a child’s learning process.

Outside of school I love to sing, read, run, do DIY crafts, play with my puppy, and being with my friends/ family!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am current an extended care teacher, as well as substitute teacher for a local private elementary school.

Additionally, I have been a learning-teacher (practicum labs) in Stewart HeadStart, the Child Development Center, & South Shelby Elementary. I have babysitting experience from high school [phone number hidden]) for two families; children ages 6 months-2 years of age. This is a combined experience of about 5 years in childcare services!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to take children out for nature walks, where I often will encourage the use and understanding of the five senses in a fun, engaging, and naturally stimulating way. Going to the park or back yard for some screen-free time is always a must. I love hands- on activities such as coloring, puzzles, or using blocks to get creative gears moving. I also think it’s fun to listen to Disney/ age appropriate music, or dance to creators such as Danny Go from time to time. I find that younger kids tend to love “wind down” activities like yoga/ stretching, and in terms of screen-time, I prefer to play fun, but educational content like that of Wild Krats, for example! “Thinking Games” or listening-focused ones such as Simone Says, Telephone, or Ghost in the Graveyard are a hit in the extended care classroom I’m currently in (which ranges from ages 4-8).

My experience with special needs children...

I have had the pleasure of being a learning aid to a couple of special needs children. However, my first real and most memorable experience was only a few years ago with a 4-year old boy- in a preschool classroom- who had Down Syndrome. For that year, I was often responsible for engaging with him and helping him learn alongside his peers in a developmentally appropriate manner. Sometimes extra care with bathroom time was needed, or a more gentle, but firm, approach to correcting misbehavior. Sometimes is looked like many attempts- often failed ones- to keep his attention, hair being pulled, or comforting a wave of unprompted tears.

I love the experience through all of the ups and downs and loved becoming a consistent person in his life. The experience humbled my heart to get to work closely with a set of needs I didn’t understand prior to that experience. I have also worked with a couple of children with general cognitive or physical delays, autism, and chronic illness.
