A little bit about me

Hi there,
My name is Zhenya, and I recently moved to the Portland area. I’m studying psychology with a focus on family development and have a real love for working with children. My experience ranges from caring for little ones as young as five months to guiding young teenagers, in both daycare settings and as a dance instructor. I try to bring a warm, caring, and patient energy to everything I do, meeting each child where they are and supporting them with creativity and kindness. Growing up with a Waldorf education, I naturally bring its approach into my caregiving, encouraging play-based learning, nature walks, music-making, and hands-on creative activities. I’m excited to find a position where I can help children feel supported, inspired, and joyful as they grow.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I’m a certified BHP (Behavioral Health Professional) and have worked with young children, ages 3 to 7, in afterschool programs. I’ve also enjoyed teaching dance to kids from 5 to 14 and caring for a family with three children, ranging from 5 months to 10 years, since 2019. I’ve had the chance to support little ones aged 2 to 3 in preschool afterschool programs, helping them feel comfortable, happy, and engaged.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy a play-based approach to learning, often incorporating plenty of time outdoors along with creative arts and crafts. This can include small art projects like painting or drawing, as well as cooking activities such as baking cookies or making vegetable stone soup. I also love storytime, reading with the children and creating stories together :)

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe that being a great nanny means building a loving, caring, and supportive relationship with the children while maintaining open and honest communication with the family. I strive to be flexible and adapt when plans change, and I make sure I have a clear understanding of the family’s expectations and household routines. I respect everyone in the home, knowing that I am entering their space and caring for their loved ones. I aim to be reliable, responsible, and observant, anticipating the children’s needs and handling challenges calmly. Ultimately, my goal is to nurture the children’s growth and well-being while fostering a positive, respectful, and trusting relationship with the family.

My experience with special needs children...

As a Behavioral Health Professional, I have had the privilege of working with children on the autism spectrum, as well as those with a range of behavioral and developmental diagnoses. Through this work, I have supported each child’s individual needs, helping them build skills, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment in a nurturing and compassionate environment. I approach every child with patience, understanding, and a commitment to creating a safe and encouraging space where they can thrive.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite parts of being a nanny is being present with a child and watching them learn and grow. It’s rewarding to see their development—both physically and emotionally—over time. When working with the little ones, their physical energy is incredible; it feels like a new human every week, which keeps things fresh and engaging. I especially enjoy spending time outdoors, playing games, and supporting them as they explore and discover.

I believe in creating a positive and warm environment where kids can thrive and feel loved. I have completed a Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course and it is valid until  2/21/26.
