A little bit about us…

Our son Milo has an extremely rare neurodegenerative mitochondrial disease that affects his ability to walk, stand or sit unassisted. He has low muscle tone which causes him to be a bit floppy and needs support when sitting or playing. We carry him a lot or put him in his high chair, stroller or other assistive device like his wheelchair, gait trainer/walker.

His speech is also affected by his condition so he doesn't have many words but understands quite a bit and will use sounds of affirmation, shake his head yes or no and point to what he wants in order to communicate his needs. He also uses some sign language and is learning how to use an AAC device at school. Although the idea of caring for a child like Milo sounds daunting, he is the sweetest, most social and smiley little boy you'll ever meet and has an amazing personality that will melt your heart.

He's also got an amazing almost 8 year old sister named Leila who is in 3rd grade and also full of love. We are very lucky to have such sweet well-behaved children.

We are looking for someone that will love both of our kids and treat them as family. We are very hands on parents but both work a ton on top of making sure Milo and Leila have everything they need. Although your primary childcare responsibilities will be focused on Milo, it is also important that our daughter Leila is seen and recognized. She is a typically developing girl who loves art, Barbies, video games, fashion and arcades. And even though she is pretty much self-sufficient, Leila craves our attention since her brother’s needs occupies most of ours.

I work a flexible schedule so will probably be around but need someone who can play, engage and help with therapies. He is working on gross motor, fine motor, speech, etc and need someone with special needs experience to help as much as possible since we can’t always give him undivided attention.

We are ideally looking for full-time but might consider part-time for the right person.
