Martha V. - Seeking Work in Piedmont

My childcare experience started early, as the second to oldest of five children. I willingly helped care for my younger siblings whenever needed. I became a nanny for a family in Medford Oregon a little over 3 years ago; caring for 3 wonderful children full time. My responsibilities included preparing meals, transportation to and from school as well as after school activities, light cleaning/laundry, grocery shopping, outdoor activities, homework and much more. I'm so thankful for the knowledge, experience, and relationships I have gained from this job. Helping to care for & provide safety, comfort, and structure for a child is a unique and important job and I am confident in my ability to do so. I am 25 years old. I am energetic, organized, patient, kind, and responsible.

Hi there, my name is Jill and I love caring for kids! My first job was as the neighborhood babysitter beginning when I was 11 yrs old. I took it very seriously and took CPR courses and had many families I worked for. I continued this until I was 17 and moved away. I began working as an instructional aide for children with Asperger’s who were mainstreamed in a regular classroom when I was 19 and did this for a few years. While doing so, I took care of a few different familie’s kids in the school in my free time. I have also worked as a teacher in a daycare and was mostly responsible for the youngest children. (Although I worked regularly with all ages.) I have a degree which began as an ECE major (so I have a lot of ECE units), but I changed my major to Nursing when I saw that so many of the teachers in the school I was working in were either being let go or were not making nearly enough to make ends meet. I thought it would be a more sound financial plan to change to a Nursing career. I took many classes for this and was accepted into the program, but found after a while that it was not a good fit for me and I was unhappy. I realize that my true passion is being with kids and I want to bring my knowledge and experience to my next job where I can enjoy watching children learn and grow (it truly gives me great satisfaction)! I’m a good choice because I’m able to know the appropriate activities to engage in with your child for their age and developmental stage. I also have a lot of experience teaching kids to read, so if that’s something you’d like me to work on with your kids I will happily do that. I love all ages of kids, as each brings their own fun surprises but I think my favorite is 6 months to 2 years. These years are so exciting to witness due to the incredible amount of growing and learning that’s taking place. It amazes me every time. I also think I’m a good choice because I come with the added bonus of all my pre-Nursing knowledge! I’m CPR certified too.

Hi - we are looking for another family to share our nanny with us, starting Monday March 26th. We have a 10 month old boy and a wonderful nanny - she’s a native English speaker and has a car. She also has 14 years of working in child care, with excellent references.

Some details on the share:
* 8am - 6pm, Monday- Friday
* $13 / hour, minimum of 50 hours a week - that’s $650 / week
* We live in Piedmont close to Dracena Park. We have plenty of space for the kids, and your child would have his/her own dedicated room for naps.
* We’d prefer to host five days a week but are open to splitting the hosting

Please feel free to reach out with additional questions.

Thank you!

Chris

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Piedmont, CA?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of Piedmont’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.
