I used to work as a nanny for a single father who is rarely home, so it's my duty to get ALL four the boys (ages6-12) up for school, lunches made (they are vegetarians) and to school. The four boys go to two different schools in two different towns. I often also would accompany them on fieldtrips as well as driving them to sporting events. I would pick them up from school, get them snacks, try to keep the fighting to a minimum, do the dishes, do their laundry and make sure their homework is complete. Dinners are also prepared by me! I also nannied for their father's girlfriends two girls, much easier though mainly just picking up from school and they too go to two different schools.

I recently just arrived back in California after being an au pair in Zurich, Switzerland. My experience in Switzerland was wonderful. I watched the children daily from 4pm-9pm, and as they were 8 and 11 years old they did not need much minding. However, I was there more to speak to them in English than to "watch them." When they came home from school I prepared a healthy snack, talked with them about their day, and then helped them with their homework. We then went outside and played soccer, threw a frisbee around, or played hide and seek around the neighborhood. I tried to keep a very active, healthy lifestyle with them.. I think I only watched a movie with them only twice the entire summer. We loved being active! Whenever the parents were gone, as they had meetings and outings, I watched them as well in the night or weekends. We usually prepared dinner together (which was very fun to prepare Swiss food and American food) ate dinner together, and then made a dessert and just talked and laughed in English. We then read, listened to music, and then went to bed. I never had any problems with discipling them when they needed it, which was very nice. They were children and did need it sometimes!

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Redding, CA?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home.
