I have been taking care of the children of family friends and my younger brother for years. At my first job I would run birthday parties with up to 20 children. I have worked with a nanny company for two years from 2008-2010. The company is a temp service so I have been working with many different families and children. However, I also worked for a family in Old Greenwich 3 days a week with a 6 year old girl. I have cooked for children and dealt with children who have severe food allergies. I've driven for families doing such things as picking up children from school, taking them to doctor appointments, and taking the children to museums, parks, and play dates. The company stresses stimulating the children so I am constantly doing arts and crafts, reading, and various different activities outdoors whenever possible, and just engaging the children in general. I give children their baths and put them to sleep as well. I've looked after twins, toddlers with fevers, children who require daily medication, children who carry an EpiPen, and even a group of four highly energetic brothers. I love animals and have worked with many families who have more than one pet including dogs, cats, birds, turtles, fish, and rodents. I have helped families at pool parties and other home functions. I have worked with all types of families; some who run their households on strict schedules, and others who have a more free and laid back approach. Also, once a year I help with a dance academy's recital and am required to watch anywhere from 12-20+ children at a time ranging from 4-11 years of age. I currently work for a family that has four children ranging from 6-12 with a VERY busy schedule between all of them.

I have worked with two different families on the east coast in the past two years. The first consisted of a seven year old boy who I absolutely adored and was able to create a strong bond with him and his family still to this day. They were so good to me and it was by far a great experience. The second family I had the privilege to be apart of had two children, ages 5 and 3, a boy and girl. I love those kids and would do anything for them. The 5 year old girl required special needs, as she had a stroke when she was a baby. The needs included motor skill exercises, trips to the PT weekly, as well as help with the normal daily tasks (getting dressed, eating with both hands ect..) We've had so much fun with each other and I've come to learn a lot from them. I"m currently looking for a new family I can feel a part of and gain a strong relationship with. I absolutely love my job that it just isn't "work" to me! Prior to these nanny jobs, I have done babysitting jobs, day and overnight, for families with as many as seven children and infants. I have been babysitting for 9 years. I have taken parenting classes, and I am CPR ceritfied.

I have worked with children both professionally and in my personal life for over 10 years. I started babysitting in my early teens and helped care for my half brothers when they were born while I was a college student. In college, I majored in Psychology and then went onto graduate school to receive my Masters in Social Work. While attending both undergraduate and graduate school I focused my studies on child and adolescent development. During the summers I worked as a camp counselor at a local . After receiving my MSW I have spent the last five years being a mental health therapist for children and their families. I provided individual, group, and family therapy for at risk children ranging in age from 2-18.

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Bethel, OH?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of Bethel’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.
