From the time I was a little toddler I have been drawn to infants. When I got a bit older and visited my grandparents in Georgia, I would often entertain the children my grandma babysat as well as cousins that came along after I was born. My little brother was born when I was almost 14 and I was like another mother to him. We did everything together until I left home when he was almost 7. So, I have cared for him since he was an infant, through toddler stage and school age. One summer I also babysat for 2 little girls around 3 and 7. They had scheduled storytimes to go to as well as zoo classes, swimming lessons and clubs. As long as I have directions and car seats I don't mind taking the children out. In fact, it helps break up the day even if it is just a trip to the library. At 19 I started subbing at the local schools as a teacher's aide. Mainly I have subbed in the MH class or as a child's aide who has trouble learning. I have experience in grades Pre-K thru 12. I am also used to twins. Twins and multiple births have always been interesting to me and every time I am around a set I try to get to know them as seperate individuals as soon as possible. I know that most twins, (if not all), appreciate it when you can tell them apart and notice that they are seperate human beings with interests of their own. People have often commented on my ability to get even the child with the smallest attention span to sit down and color or read a book. I just feel that the less you get upset, the calmer they will be. I like to get down to their level as I believe they feel less intimidated by you. One of my most satisfying jobs was with a kindergartner who was wheelchair bound, had to be tube fed, changed, range of motion therapy, and couldn't talk. I loved working with her.

Signed on with an agency 12 years ago and they provided me with oodles of families to help. When the economy took a hit, these same families weren't able to use the agency as much. I eventually registered online, and found the 3 families I currently help and have been with close to 5 years (all 3 families). They keep me very busy and I have been their "go to" for not only their children, but keeping up their homes as well as caring for their four legged kids when they're both home and away.

Hi! I would like to tell you why I would be your ideal nanny. I have been caring for children for over 20 years. I started as a babysitter for friends and family and realized it was my calling. I have worked with a nanny agency, in daycares and private homes. My most recent position was a live-in caregiver for the past five years with a now 5-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl. Prior to that, I was a live-out nanny for then twin 15-month-old boys and a 6-month-old girl which lasted a year. For both families, I was responsible for feeding, bathing and chores related to the children, but I also pitched in with other household chores such as laundry, help with meals and light housekeeping as needed. Both jobs ended on great terms but the families no longer needed my assistance.

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Jefferson, OR?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of Jefferson’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.
