Warmest greetings all!
My name is Mel, I have 7 years of nanny experience, 15 years of babysitting experience and 6 years of both tutoring and soccer training & coaching experience.
My current family is in Arlington, MA and has been absolutely wonderful but the boys, ages almost 2 and almost 4, are ready for day care, they need the socialization skills! Also, in September I will be starting night school and concentrating on a music career in music therapy. My responsibilities with them have been snack and lunch prep or light cooking, taking bus rides on the T, going to sing-alongs, library trips, and teaching the boys spanish.
I have experience with boy/girl twins in Cambridge Mass. nannying for two state troopers as both live-in and live-out. My responsibilities included diaper changes, cooking/preparing meals, cleaning common spaces/rooms, and occasional grocery shopping and driving to activities. They were 4months when I started with them and 2 1/2 when my full time care ended with them. To this day, I still visit and occasionally babysit and spend time with my surrogate family :) The twins will be 6 in October.
My first nanny job was as a live-in nanny caring for a 7-year-old boy 24 hours a day. I got him up for mornings, mad breakfast, packed lunches, bathed him and tucked him in daily. I also was responsible for tutoring him in math and sciences as well as training him in soccer.
I began babysitting at 10 for my two younger sisters and three younger brothers. Babysitting for other families began at 12. I started my own neighborhood "business" training children in their technical, tactical and psychological skills in soccer at 16. I am extremely passionate when it comes to children because I never really got to have a childhood myself. As an adult, I see the importance of children learning their own abilities so that they may be empowered by themselves, rather than others opinions. It is also overwhelmingly inspiring when I get to teach a child certain skills and see them apply those skills in the world, be it speaking spanish, dribbling or kicking a soccer ball, using polite words, or even just hearing them ask for "some lovin' " which is something i do ask for often.
