I have around 5 years experience as a full time nanny and many years babysitting experience. For a little over 5 years, I have held 3 nanny positions, two of which were temporary and one long term. For almost 4 years, I have been working for a family in Alexandria, VA, caring for a beautiful little boy. He was 2 1/2 months old at the time I began caring for him and has now recently turned 4 in October. Since beginning, I have spent over 50 hours/week, Mon-Fri, caring for him, which has recently been reduced to part time since he has begun preschool. Before getting hired by my current employers, I had worked 2 other nanny positions, which were only temporary. The first one was a full time position where I cared for a very active and joyful 3 1/2 year old little boy, whose cooperative preschool I frequently participated in. In the second position I was the weekend nanny where I worked from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. I was responsible in caring for a very sweet 7 year old boy with severe special needs. My responsibilities included assisting in many of his therapeutic exercises and learning activities, as well as feeding, bathing, and assisting him in the middle of the night when he woke. Many of my main duties in my 2 full time positions included handling the child's laundry, meals, keeping play areas tidy, and driving them to activities, pediatrician appointments, preschool, or wherever else the parents requested them to be. In my current long term position I have assisted the parents in establishing a proper daily schedule/routine for the child, arranged play dates, as well as any other fun child related activities for the day when there wasn't anything else desired or scheduled by the parents. Other child care positions I have held were short term babysitting positions for various families for date nights, emergencies, mother's helper, etc... I have also held a variety of child related odd jobs, such as being an on call babysitter when I was a teenager, babysitting for friends/family, and working as a Party Coordinator where I held many birthday parties, craft parties, and family events.

I have babysat since I was about 13 years old. When I was younger I babysat neighbors or family friend's children. I would babysit mostly everyday, watching my neighbors children after they arrived home from school. Most children I babysat at the time were between the ages of 4 to 10. As I got older I started babysitting children of older ages and children with mental disabilities. When I turned 17, I started regularly babysitting for a family of 3 children, one of the children had Aspergers. Working with him taught me a lot I needed to know about how to take care of children with disabilities. Also the family had a one year old, so I learned the basics of taking care of a younger child. I also babysat for many other families during this time, most children being between the ages of 2-12. During this time period I also had a 2 year old sister and a 5 year old brother, I took care of them a lot, watching them almost daily for my parents. When I was 18, I started nannying for a family of twins. I was with them from 6 am to about 5 pm everyday, so we pretty much did everything together. We would do educational work together, play outside, go to the pool, go to parks, go to museums for children, and so much more. I started babysitting them when they were a little over three and just stopped last fall due to them starting school. I learned a lot about supporting and helping children grow positively by being with them everyday. During the time period I did nanny, I began college during the evenings, I began the process of getting my teaching degree. I am two years in and have learned so much more about taking care of children. Because of my degree, I have participated in student-teaching. From last September to January I taught three 7th grade English classes, alongside a certified teacher. This experience has taught me not only how to be responsible for multiple students at a time, but also many techniques in teaching children. It also allowed me to work with children of many different cultures and understand to treat every child as an individual.

I began caring for neighborhood children at age 12; became a mother at age 23 and have 2 daughters; I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mother and babysat too; I was a live-out nanny for 2 years while I earned an Elementary Ed. degree and a Special Education degree and taught Spec. Ed. for 5 years in Missouri; I was a foster mother for 2 years while teaching; I came to MD in 2012 to care for my grandson and help my daughter. I have been building my childcare portfolio ever since. I have clients from several sources and am an Advanced Newborn Care Specialist (Day and Night), so juggling a schedule is crucial. I enjoy providing temporary or permanent care. I have certifications in Breast feeding help, tongue and lip tie identification and how they inhibit good breast feeding along with other certifications. I have cared for and taught children 0-13, mainly 0-10 most of my life. I have cared for 2 babies with G-tubes at home and in the hospital.

I come from a large family, so caring for children comes natural. My summer vacation at 12 consisted of taking care for younger cousins and my new born sister. My mother, a visiting in-home nurse, took me along side of her when she was caring for elderly patients that were either hearing impaired or that had AIDS. All of this experience sparked my interest in caring for other. I completed 2 years of Child Development in high school and my major in college is Early Childhood Education. Most importantly, I have a year old child. When I care for children some of the things I like to do is read books, play hand games, sing songs and other activities that keeps their attention in a fun way. I've studied children's growth, behavior, nutrition, and milestone that children should reach at different ages. Safety and educating for young children is close and dear to my heart.
