I have been in some form of child care and family service since I was sixteen, now I am about to turn 30. So, about 14 years! Right now I am a part time live-in nanny for a busy couple and thier three children ages12 , 10, and 5. I have worked and lived with this family for almost five years! When I first began thier children were 7mo., 5, 7. They are like family to me, and I am moving to part-time capacity because thier wonderful youngest son is moving into full days of pre-k! They grow up so fast! My duties include providing care for the three year old during the mornings while the parents are at work and thier older children are at school. I play with him, take him to parks, provide educational activities (help with teaching letters, numbers, colors etc. I also help "Mom" with household duties such as laundry, light cleaning, errands, and transportation. I also assist with homework etc. Prior to this position I worked as a Foster Care Case Manager. My position there lasted only a year because I was fresh out of college and even though I loved all the kids on my caseload, government red tape is not my strongsuit. Therefore I moved into my current position from there. Before that I worked as a fulltime live out nanny most summers to various families in my neighborhood, the most memorable being the four year old twins (so cute). Before college I babysat for the children in my neighborhood and all the younger children in my own family (cousins etc.). They were so much fun! I learned how to change diapers and perform the really fun duties that way! In college I took plenty of Child Development classes and occasionally watched the Resident Directors young three year old girl.

I have been doing this for 11 years. I could fill a book with my experiences. But my duties with two families encompasses all of skill sets. Family G had two children: 4 yo girl and 6 yo boy. For four and a half years I picked up both children from school, I made them a snack, helped with homework and school projects, and I took them to soccer practice/play dates. In the summer time I had them full time and would create activities for them (this included things like hikes, trips to the beach, library days, pool days, camping ect). Family S has 3 children, a 4 yo boy, 2 yo boy, and a 8 week old girl. I was with this family for 3 years, I started when the oldest was almost 1. My duties for this family changed ever year as new members were added to the family and as the older kids started school. But my typical day now is as follows: get to the house right around breakfast time (730). Help all kids get ready for school and out the door- then I would watch the baby. In the early months there are a lot of walks around the neighborhood and at parks. But as they get older story time at the library, trips to the museum, and play dates are a regular thing (I consider myself a savant at finding events for babies to go to). I would then pick the older kids up from school, take them home and prepare lunch, and put them down for nap. After nap I would usually plan a small activity close to home (park trip, playing in the backyard, fort making on rainy days) until their mom got home at 430/5.

My mom says that my childcare experience started when I was 2 playing "mom" to my baby dolls! When I reached my teenage years I started helping out in my church with the kids. While doing that my neighbors had a baby and they let me watch him while they ran out. He is now 14! A couple at my church had two kids with one on the way. She asked me if I wanted to help her out some. At that time I had no idea I could care for three kids like they were my own! The oldest is now 11 and the youngest is 6 I feel like they have grown up way to fast! I love to spend time with tem on and off the clock! I help the mom out in every way that I can. Kids are my life! I just became an aunt and it is amazing! I have cared for a child with downs syndrome along with his younger brother! I feel like my "calling" is to be with kids and I love every second that I am!
