Hello, my name is Summer!
I'm currently a sophomore, pursuing my BS/MS in Occupational Therapy at the University at Buffalo. I've gotten ahead in my classes and am looking forward to staying in Ithaca to work for the spring semester!
As the oldest of three siblings, working and interacting with children has always come naturally. I began babysitting at the age of 13 and quickly transitioned into nannying. Over the past five years, I've nannied for two families which have included children ages 1-10. I provided supervision and entertainment, created games, projects and crafts and administered naps, cooked meals, took walks and cleaned the homes.
Other child-care jobs have included working as a tutor, counselor, babysitter, teacher, specialist, shadowing therapist, and intern.
Some highlights include working at a Day Camp for three summers in a row, leading art classes for 5-8-year-olds and serving as a senior counselor for the 6-year-old group.
I also served as an Assistant Program Leader, aiding theatre classes for children ages 3-12.
One of my most valued experiences was interning in Buffalo for ENERGY after-school program, which encourages academic success for the children of refugees. There, I worked as a tutor, and also created lesson plans, songs, activities, games and skits for the children.
Besides these experiences, I've also volunteered in my church's Sunday school for five years, teaching and assisting the nursery-6th grade, with a focus on the Pre-K classroom.I’m very flexible and can work with any schedules and rules you would prefer, as well as spontaneous weekend hours for babysitting. I also have several pets of my own, so working around animals would not be an issue.
