I recently worked with an Australian family as a baby-sitter/nanny for two years (2014-2016). My responsibilities included after-school pick-up, taking kids to activities, setting up playdates, preparing snacks, monitoring homework and music practice, asking the kids to tidy up their rooms and bathe, and light tidying up around the house as I saw fit (e.g. running and unloading dishwasher, folding laundry, and organizing). When the children were done with their responsibilities we would hang out together and talk, bake/prep dinner, play games and go out. I have also worked as an occasional babysitter with children ages 7-13 prior to the above mentioned position that entailed similar responsibilities such as after-school pick-up, activities and appointments, playdates, prepping light meals and snacks, and playing with children. Additionally, I have worked as a music instructor with children ages 5+ for the past eight years. I commenced elementary tutoring with children ages 6-12 in January of 2015, and have also helped preteens with the high school admissions process. Other relevant experience with children includes volunteering as a swimming instructor for the xx Camp program in LIC, Queens, NY during senior year of high school and volunteering to teach English to the underprivileged children in Monterrey, Mexico through the International Youth Foundation. Both experiences proved to be very rewarding! This summer, I worked as a camp counselor and music instructor with children ages 3 and up at the xx School in Sunnyside, Queens, NY.

Ever since I got my first opportunity to work with children (Summer of 2005, at a summer camp) I realized how important it is to have motivated and educated adults be around children whose curiosity should be satisfied with tact and respect for the values the child brings from home. I'm a firm believer in education as the future not only of the youth but of the world as a whole and being part of children intellectual growth had been a great experience in my life, and one that I would like to continue to pursue for as long as I can. I'm currently pursuing an MFA in English (creative writing and literary translation at CUNY - Queens College) and although I had just been hired to be an adjunct professor at Queens College for the Fall of 2011 (will be teaching a literature course), I don't have a job for the Summer and would like to make myself available. I completed my undergraduate degree thanks to a scholarship I earned to swim at the NCAA division one level and currently teach private swimming lessons around Manhattan and Queens (the following link will give you a little bit of information on Aroldo the swimmer... http://swimminglessonsnyc.wordpress.com/about/) . In addition to having been a swimmer, I have always been around sports and would be able to actively participate in any physical activity your children are part of: soccer, baseball (always played both growing up, until decided to fully dedicate my time to swimming), tennis (same thing. My brother also was part of a division one tennis team so I would hit around with him...), basketball, etc. I will make sure your children are engage in activities beyond TV and video games, for I believe one of my strength is to organize play-days, keeping the children active and having fun.

I have twenty-four years of experience as a full-time/part-time nanny and after-school babysitter. I have worked with children ages 1 month to 14 years old. I am a native Spanish speaker and an advanced English speaker; I have raised the children under a bilingual environment as requested by parents. Responsibilities in previous jobs included after school pick-up, taking the children to appointments, classes and play-dates, snack preparation, supervising children's homework and music practice. When the children were not doing homework or music practice I would take them to the park, work on art and crafts, or play games with them. I am a very attentive caregiver and I understand that engaging children is fundamental to their development.

Being the oldest in the family of a single mother, I was given the responsibilities to take care of the younger ones. Cleaning after them, cooking, housekeeping, and taking care of them was something I've done in the past couple years . I do have 4 years of childcare experience other than my family. I took care of two beautiful daughters at the age of 3 month and 4 year old in Fulton Manhattan. My responsibilities were to escort the 4 year old to her daily classes in TriBeCa. Afterward depending on her mood and the weather, we would either go to the park, columnists service, bookstore or play dates. When we get home I was responsible for the 3 month old with diaper changing, feeding, burping, bathing, entertaining, singing and reading to her.
