I am from Brazil and I came to USA as An au pair. In my first work as an Au pair here in America I worked for an amazing family of 6, I took care of four kids, ages 12, 10 and 5 (twins), when I got in this family the twins were just 3 and was amazing to see how they grew along these years. My relationship with the family was great, we have never had any problem, and the communication was always on the top of everything. My duties were: take the twins a bath, drive to school (when need), read books before bed time, brush teeth, entertain with games, crafts, sports, and feed and give snacks. The older the duties are different, once I don`t need to be with them all the time, so the duties would be: feed them, make sure they do homework (when necessary help them with the homework), make sure they brushed the teeth. I am also responsible for the kid`s laundry (doing laundry, putting away and cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. The older (girl and boy) have extra activities after school and I am also responsible to make sure they are ready. Before this experience as an Au pair, I used to take care of two girls (different houses and different bosses) when I was in Brazil and the duties were a little similar, except for the housekeeping part because I didn't live with them, I worked just until the parents got home. Currently I work for a family of 4, I take care of 2 wonderful girls, ages 5 and 7. The work is a little different from the others because it is a housekeeping/nanny job. I clean, cook and take care of the kids. Help with homework and entertainment. I am leaving the family because the kids are going to be full time at school and they won`t need me anymore. I love kids and love to take care of them. I am also a teacher in Brazil what just make my experience with kids better. I am kind and patient and willing to help with wherever list.

I have a degree in the Bachelor of Arts course. After I was done with college I became a teacher! I started teaching Portuguese and English Grammar for all the ages, since little kids (2 years old until 5 years) until high school. But I knew if I wanted I could learn more and be better in my career as a teacher. So, I decided to try something new which would open doors of opportunity in my life either in my job or as a person. I decided apply for an exchange program in USA. I always had the necessity to explore the unknown, to experience the unlike. I came to USA to work with a family of six and I have never had problems with them, they are really good with me and helpful, we are together for a year and 10 months. I take care of four kids, one boy (12), one girl (10) and twins (5). I live with this amazing family for the whole year and 10 months, they are a very nice family, hard-working and well oriented. My daily schedule is not regular due to the kid’s schedule. My duties are: take the twins a bath, drive to school (when need), read books before bed time, brush teeth, entertain with games, crafts, sports, feed and give snacks. My last work was for a family of 4, I took care of 2 wonderful girls, ages 5 and 7. The work was a little different from the others because it is a housekeeping/nanny job, I had to clean the house and take care of the kids but other than that the duties were the same as the old nanny job I mentioned ahead.

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Clifton, VA?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of Clifton’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.
