I have absolutely loved caring and working with children since I can remember. Even my favorite thing to play, as a little one myself, was "babies" where we would care for babies. We had close family friends that would leave their two sweet daughters with me (beginning at ages 2 and 6) often over probably 5+ years and it was always as much a treat for me as for them. During high school, once I could drive, I cared for a 12 year old and became very close with her and the family. I drove her to many commitments and cared for her younger cousins part of the time as well. I lived in Texas 2 different years where I was a nanny for 2 rambunctious little ones, and started when they were 1 and 3 years old. Throughout my time nannying in TX, I was reccomended by the family I was working with to other extended families and friends of theirs in the area with children and had a very full schedule with a wide range of ages and personalities. I loved it though, I was able to meet so many great people and their children there, they have often asked me to come back and I feel very lucky to have made such a good impression. In addition to my time nannying, I have worked on and off at a daycare in Olympia, my hometown, since 2010 to present. I also spent 2 years working at an only daycare YMCA, working mostly with 2-5 year olds but also worked briefly in the infant room and with the 1-2 year olds. Finally, I have worked at daycare, here, in Kenmore for about 6 months. I missed the close personal bonds and freedom that comes with private nannying, but I, of course, loved all the children dearly.

Having babysat since the age of 13, I delved into nannying at the age of 21, taking care of an 18mo old boy full time for approx. 9mos. I then took more part-time positions, caring for a little boy of similar age one day a week for about a year and a half, with some weeks consisting of more days than others. My most recent and long-lasting position has been with a family of four, facilitating a smooth transition and environment between two houses of a couple who had separated, with my official title being that of "nanny & household assistant". The boy is now 7 and the girl is now 11. I've been a part of their world on and off for the past four years, often two days a week but some less, some more, officially taking a step back a few months ago to pursue my career. Even so, they still contact me when they need assistance and I do so when I am able. I did light housekeeping, taking care of pets including house sitting while the family was away, vet visits, crafts, decorating for holidays, grocery shopping, laundry, and transportation of the kids to school and after-school activities, and more delicate care for the girl as she has cerebral palsy (helping with leg braces, medication, etc.), as well as handling more delicate situations pertaining to both childrens' severe anxiety.

I nannied for two years for a wonderful family with three school-age children in Bellevue before becoming an elementary school teacher in the Northshore School District, where I have worked for the last three years. Previous to nannying I worked as an Assistant Supervisor and Supervisor for licensed before and after school child care for five and a half years. During that time I also taught art classes to home-schooled children, taught classes in an after school setting including mixed media arts, gardening, and nature sciences, and spent summers as a camp counselor during one of which I worked with middle school students in an overnight camp setting. I have been working with children in a variety of settings for over 10 years.

I love kids and I babysat for a few families on a regular basis all through high school. I usually cared for 2-4 children at a time, ages infant to age 8. While caring for the children, I often performed other tasks such as cleaning and cooking meals. The past 21 months, I have cared for my niece who will be 2 in January while my sister worked. She is 3 months younger than my son and it has been very rewarding caring for her and watching her grow and develop. My sister is now able to stay home so my care is no longer needed.

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Bothell, WA?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. Take your nanny out one of Bothell’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise.
