Paula C. - Seeking Work in Seattle

Full-time hours

To Whom it May Concern, I am a mother of a 20 year old Sophomore in College at Saint John's University in New York. I have owned, and operated my own companies both here in Seattle and in Vancouver B.C. my significant other is a well respected xx here in Seattle and I have established references from well known Seattle business owners that have known me personally for several years. Here are the basics: I no longer wish to work in an office environment. I LOVE kids, especially younger kids newborn to 12 is my favorite age. I am 50 years old. I am FUN, energetic, kind and witty. I have cleaned homes/and resort cleaning in my younger years (High School) - I am a clean freak - and will clean your house. I can do just about anything - except lawn work. . .I am not fond of lawn work. :) I am a team player meaning: If you need the house clean (check) - If you need the kids taken care of and you NEVER want to worry again whether they are safe, happy, and their homework is done and if they are getting to school on time and practice on time (check) - If you want someone that likes doing laundry (check) - If you want someone that has navigated the Seattle private school's sector (check, check, check) (St. John's on Madison, OLOF in Magnolia and Seattle Prep - yes my daughter attended all of them). I believe reading is the cornerstone of a great education. Reading develops a child's thirst and hunger for knowledge, it will be the foundation your child uses to be successful in her/his education. It is necessary to make reading FUN, interesting and challenging to your child, but not so challenging they give-up! I believe in this, and I can do this. Childhood is magical and I miss sharing this with a child. I like watching a child learn, and grow. I miss it. My own has far surpassed me! (which was always the goal) I am creative and will work to help your children and cultivate your relationship with your child so you never feel because you work so much that you are missing out! It is important for kids to do things for their parents so they let them know they are appreciated. I am the type of person that is cognizant of a parent/child relationship and the need to nurture it. I worked very hard for many years in the business world. Frankly I am sick of it and the idea of going back into it does not appeal to me. The idea of becoming part of a family, hearing children laugh, helping a family make their everyday life easier seems ideal to me. I will run your errands, clean your house, laugh with your kids, be stern with them when necessary, but I find kids react to love better than anything. If you are suddenly in need of a secretary or someone to act in that capacity I am more than capable of handling anything on a computer, even a Mac, from powerpoint to social media, excel, outlook. I am tech savvy. The most important thing is I really do want to be a part of someones family as I miss my own daughter and I really would like to be around children again, they make my life happier. If you have read this far please send me a request for my resume and references. I will gladly send it to you. I will also agree to a background check and a drug test. I hope to hear from you!

I began nannying in 2003, after graduating from highschool. The family had one girl, almost 1 yr. old, and one boy, almost 2 years old. I stayed with this family for two years. I stopped working for them because the children entered school. During my time with them, we travelled, and did countless activities including art projects, reading, baking, going on walks and going to the park, going out for lunch or ice-cream, the list goes on! The second family I nannied for was a live-in situation for 1 year. There was a newborn girl, and 1 1/2 yr. old boy and a 3 yr. old boy. This was really like a family to me, as I lived with them. The children seemed like siblings and we did everything together from camping trips, to travelling, I cooked for them, did their laundry and all the activities that children love! I had to quit for this family as they moved to California. They wanted me to move with them, but my home is here. I have visited them once since to watch the two boys for 4 days while the baby sister and parents flew out of state to attend a wedding. Quite a weekend! The third family I worked for was for one year and included 3 boys! ages 1, 3 and 5. Again , we covered every activity in the book and went swimming during the summer. These kids were great. Hilarious and energy like race horses! nontheless, i kept up with them, as we went to the park quite a bit and went out for lunch, visited the library. I quit for this family because again, the boys were starting school and the youngest went into daycare. The last family I worked for had a 5 month old boy. I had been with them for one year, but have to quit because the parents could no longer provide with with the hours that were agreed upon(35-40 hours per wk.) Lastly, I was a CIT(counselor in training) for CYO camps and the YMCA. My mother has ran her very own art school, "The Little Art School" since I was around 3-4 years old, so I have been around children of all ages my entire life and i began helping her teach around the age of 10. All of my past and current experience with children has made me realize that taking care of children and successfully interacting with them comes naturally. I am currently back at work as a full time state certified MA(this in lures mandatory CPR/First Aid certification). I have been doing this for 6 years and although I absolutely love it for many reasons, I truly miss being around children and helping them grow. It's quite the treasure knowing you can be a part of how a child develops, I miss that. My work is very stressful at times, in fact it is stressful every day. Childcare can be similar, but it is difficult in a different way, it requires patience and as long as one has patience, it becomes easier with time. Point being, I would like to begin a career revolving around children, I have realized that being an MA is not what I want long term.

Hi! My name is Adria. I am 23 years old and graduated from Eckerd College last spring with a BA in Environmental Studies. I just moved back to Seattle and am seeking a nanny job for a year or two. I am originally for Vashon Island. I am a twin and so I have personal experience with multiples! I would say that protection of animals and caring for children are my two passions in life. I started caring for kids in high school, when I was 15. My high school job was being a babysitter, and I absolutely loved it. I love to be around kids and to help them with their education and provide care for them in every aspect. Children bring joy to my life and I love to be a positive role model in theirs. During college, I babysat for the families I cared for in high school when I was home for different vacations. I also babysat for a family in Saint Petersburg, FL. while I was attending college there. I have a lot of experience caring for children. My babysitting experience in vast. I cared for a family of two boys, ages 3 and 5, for three years during high school. I also cared for another two boys, ages 3 and 5 also, and again, for three years. Those were my most consistent families, but I also babysat for many other children in high school. I continued to babysit for them and other families throughout college. I also have education experience with children. During my senior year of high school I was a mentor for an 8th grade class where my priority was to work with the two mentally disabled children in the class, but I also worked with the rest of the students. I also was a outdoor school counselor for a week working with 5th and 6th graders. I was the head of a cabin, a meal table, and a 6th grade class. In college, I have volunteered at two public schools. At the first one I tutored 8th graders with reading and writing. I did this for a semester during my junior year. Most recently, during my final semester of college, I volunteered with three kindergarten classes and helped with reading and writing, and anything else the teachers needed help with. During my freshman year, I went to Peru and volunteered and a local school with mostly children ages 2-5. I spent 5 months studying Spanish in Guanajuato, Mexico this past year and have a minor in Spanish. I am proficient at speaking Spanish. I love animals, so am happy to work with pets. Please consider me as the nanny for your child(ren)
Whitney J. - Seeking Work in Seattle

Hello! My name is Whitney and I'm 24 years old. My husband and I moved to Seattle from Texas almost a year ago. We are currently managing a dorm across from University of Washington, and I am nannying a 3 year old boy just one day a week in Ballard. Looking for a family that needs a part time nanny/care taker! When I lived in Texas, I worked as a part time nanny for a few different families over a 7 year period of time. I have experience with all ages of kids from infants to pre-teens, though most of my time nannying has been spent with toddlers-elementary age. I was also an instructor at an outdoor school for 5th graders for about 2 years before moving to Seattle. I have been a counsellor at a day camp just about every summer since I was 18 (all elementary aged kids as well as special needs adults). During this time, I worked as a part time care taker for 3 years with a pre-teenage boy named Riley who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. I feel that I have a very caring and nurturing personality so most of the jobs I've had have been caring for kids and people with special needs. I also have experience with kids who have ADHD, and some behavioral problems. I am very kind and patient, but lovingly firm when need be. I love playing and having fun, but I am also a laid back and "go with the flow" type of person, so I'm very flexible and can adjust easily to your family's needs. I have nannied for families that simply wanted someone to play and care for their kids, as well as families that wanted a part time "teacher" for their homeschooling ciriculum. As I said, I'm very flexible and have experience in lots of different environments! I am certified in infant, child, and adult CPR and first aid. I have a clean background and driving record. I am willing to drive your kids to/from activities as well as take them places such as parks, museums, zoo etc. I have a 2013 Honda Fit with full coverage insurance. I grew up with all kinds of pets, so I'm very comfortable with (and used to caring for) animals. I actually consider it a plus if you have pets! I am also used to cooking for kids, doing light housework, and running errands for the families that I've nannied for so if you have any of these needs then I'd be happy to help out. I look forward to connecting with you and your family!

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Seattle, CA?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of Seattle’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.

Questions to ask prospective Seattle Nannies:
  • Have you been a nanny previously? How long did your employment last?

  • Are you able to help with food preparation?
  • What could you cook for a child aged 2-5? Do you know how to make baby food?
  • Are you comfortable facilitating play dates?
  • Have you ever potty trained a child before?
  • Have you worked with newborns? Do you know how to change a diaper and prepare formula?
