A little bit about me…

Hi! My name is Tara Newsom. I live in Indian Hills, and I am currently getting my degree in primary education at Metropolitan State University. I have spent my whole life caring for children. My sister is 10 years younger than me and I have loved the opportunity to care for her and watch her grow. I love to hike, do yoga, cook, and do crafts. I used to be CPR certified, and would be willing to take the certification class again if it is important to you and your family. I look forward to getting to know you and your family!

A little bit about me…

I started babysitting my next door neighbors when I was 16 years old. The kids were ages 4, 6, 9 and 12. The youngest had down syndrome so I got experience working with a child with special needs. I mainly watched these kids when their parents went on dates Friday or Saturday nights. I also watched a friends younger brother from the time he was an infant until the age of 3 whenever the parents wanted to go out for a night. As for long-term nannying experience, when I was 17 I answered an ad at the post office in my town for help with five-month-old boy and girl twins. I started watching the children part-time while I was still in school but then went to full-time during the summer. I watched these kids after school everyday while I was going to school in Colorado. I taught the kids how to swim and planned fun excursions for them so they could get out of the house and have fun. When I went to college, I would watch the twins whenever I was home on vacation and during the summer. After four years of watching the twins, I was named the legal guardian upon the parents death and although I am no longer the twins primary nanny, I still help the parents with major decisions such as where they will go to school and I still make time to see these kids whenever I can. While I was in St. Louis for school and before I moved back to Colorado, I watched a 1 year old girl, and 2 and 4 year old boys two days a week. I also took these kids swimming and did fun activities daily.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Indian Hills, CO

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Indian Hills Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Indian Hills? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Indian Hills?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in CO? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
