A little bit about me

I grew up on the NorthShore in Wilmette, IL where I spent the majority of my high school years nannying. After graduating, I went to UW-Madison for undergrad and graduated with a degree in Biology and 3D art with a concentration in glass blowing! I had hopes of pursuing a career in dentistry and have spent the past few years post-grad working for my family's dental practice in Pilsen, Chicago, but have found that long-term, it's not the career for me. I've always loved being around children and feel as though caring for them is something that I'm innately good at, so as I figure out what career I want to pursue, I wanted to find a nannying position to keep me busy for the time being! In my free time I teach fitness part-time in Wicker Park and spend any chance that I can with my dog, Cappuccino, outside. I've nannied for kids of all ages (infants to 7th graders), but am particularly comfortable with 5-11 year olds.

A little bit about me

Hey my name is Julia Avina! I’m a 21 year old female currently working at a daycare. I love my job but I would love to slow things down from the daycare and go back to being a nanny! And I would love to find a full time nanny position. I have been in child care for 5 years. I was a nanny for 3 years in high school and for a year after college, and after that I started working at the daycare.
I love to do art, read, and do all kinds of crafts. I’m CPR and first aid certified, and have taken classes in child development at my university.
I am passionate about education and one thing that I love about my current job is I’ve learned so much about what it looks like to really teach kids about the world and help them hit their milestones and enjoy learning. So I would love to use these skills while being a nanny too!

I adore working with kids and infants and would love to become part of your family!

A little bit about me

Hi, I’m Haylee. I’m 20 years old and originally from a small town in Ohio. I have a strong background in childcare, including two years working in a daycare, two years as a lifeguard, and many babysitting jobs with children of various ages. I also previously worked as a flight attendant, which helped me develop responsibility, adaptability, and a calm demeanor in fast-paced situations. I’m a calm, positive, and productive person who is naturally caring and attentive. Outside of work, I enjoy working out, spending time with family, and organizing and keeping spaces clean. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment for children while helping make daily life easier and more relaxing for the whole family

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Chicago, IL

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Chicago Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Chicago? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Chicago?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in IL? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
