Most of the experience I have is family based, nephew, cousins, ext. the kids I have watched range in age from a few months old to ten years old, so I have a wide variety of experience with different ages. I make sure homework is finished and that they understand what they're learning, house work/ chores are done, and that they are happy.

I had my first nanny job at 12! I spent my summer caring for two children ages 6 and 9. I spent 3 nights and 4 days a week with them. Since then I've been a full-time, part-time, and temporary nanny for many families. The losnest I have stayed with a family was 4 years. I’ve worked with children newborn to 14 years of age. Full-time, part-time, tutor, twins, special needs, I’ve done it all.

I currently have three jobs involving children, along with a little niece and nephew that I often babysit, and love very much. I am looking for something to take the place of one, or all three of my current jobs. For the last two years, I have worked at a daycare. I also work at a home based daycare in Stanwood. My third job is one that is very important to me, and that is caring for a 14-year-old boy who has autism. At the day care, I can care for up to 10 kids at a time. The children there range form ages two and a half to 10 years old. I do other things there as well, like getting snack/lunch ready for the kids, cleaning up toys, changing diapers and taking out the trash. I also recently started helping out a family friend with a daycare that she runs from her home. Although there are only about six children there at a time, a new addition (a 5-month-old baby) demands more one-on-one attention. The other children at the daycare range from two to 6 years old. I will either be spending time with the older children doing art projects and playing games, or I will be feeding, changing and helping out with the baby when needed. My last job is caring for an autistic boy. I have been helping him out for a few years, but I have been doing respite care for him for about a year now. He is now 14 years old and is non-verbal. He has a fairly severe case of autism, so caring for him is a bit different than other children. He is not potty trained, nor can he tell you what he wants or how he is feeling. My nephew was also diagnosed with autism, but has improved drastically over the last few years. I have cared for a number of children, all with different personalities and disabilities. I really do love them all and am greatly looking forward to finding a loving family to nanny for.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Camano Island, WA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Camano Island Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Camano Island? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Camano Island?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in WA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
