A little bit about me…

Hello! My name is Yulan and I am a senior at Northwestern University studying Psychology and Global Health. My experience working with children stems from taking care of my younger siblings who are 10+ years younger than me since I was in middle school. I began working with other families while I was in high school, and always enjoyed helping the children with homework, cooking meals, and making sure they went to bed content and on time. I decided to focus on my studies since coming to Evanston, but find myself missing the exciting and spontaneous interactions I used to have when I babysat and nannied. I also have experience taking care of dogs. I look forward to getting to know you and your family!

A little bit about me…

I earned a bachelor’s degree in French language and literature from the University of Ain Shams in Egypt. I taught French to young children in a bilingual preschool back home. I passionately advocate for progressive early childhood education pedagogies, including Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and STEAM education. I am a certified yoga instructor with a unique focus on young children. I introduce children to mindfulness, balance, and well-being through playful and age-appropriate yoga practices. The Perkins Family - Hiring in Evanston

The Perkins Family

Evanston, IL
$20/hr
4 kids

A little bit about us…

Two working parents with four kids looking for help after-school, roughly 3-7 PM. Help the kids with homework, organization, etc. Our kids all play travel sports so there would be some required driving for drop-off and pick-up, all local. Need someone that can help with simple household tasks (laundry, loading dishwasher, keeping the house tidy) kids are expected to pitch in with chores but need guidance/direction. We have a dog and a fenced in backyard. She will need to be walked in the afternoon.
Ideal candidate is active, creative and has a sense of humor. Candidate must have a clean driving record, excellent references and a strong work ethic. Hours are somewhat flexible, with a start time between 2 and 4 PM, looking for someone four hours a day M-F. Would prefer someone that has the flexibility to potentially help out on weekends or stay later depending on actual start time.
The Lesht Family - Hiring in Evanston

The Lesht Family

Evanston, IL
$18/hr
2 kids

A little bit about us…

Hello! Our family is moving to Evanston in April, and we are looking into the possibility of joining (or forming) a nanny share at that time. We have two sons -- a curious 3.5 year old and a snuggly 7 month old. We are hoping to arrange care 3 days per week from approximately 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM although we would also consider 4 days per week with an adjusted schedule. Our eldest will be starting half-day preschool in the fall, so we would ideally keep the same schedule for our little one at that time and have the older one join for after- school care.

We would be able to host in our home (near Asbury and Dempster) and are also willing to drop-off within the Evanston/Skokie/Wilmette/Rogers Park area. We would be open to a nanny who is interested in bringing their own child with them in place of or as part of the share, as well, or an exclusive part-time nanny.

A few things about us:
- Both parents work from home most of the time at this point.
- We will have a dedicated space (playroom, bathroom, sleep area) for the share, so hopefully won't be too disruptive to the kids when we are working from home.
- We are fully vaccinated (and boosted) and plan to vaccinate our children once they are eligible.
- We do have one dog, but she will be "working" with us during the day and separate from the children.

A few things we would ideally be looking for:
- Nanny with CPR certification and experience with multiple children
- Nanny who is interested in being a W-2 employee
- Nanny who takes a gentle approach to care
- Up-to-date vaccination for all eligible individuals involved in share
The Katz Family - Hiring in Evanston

A little bit about us…

Looking for care 2-3 days per week (8-10 hour days) for our 3 month old in the fall of 2024 (due end of June 2024). I am a pediatric nurse so looking for 2-3 flexible days per week with approximate times 8am-5pm (no weekends). We have a sweet 40lb pup as well! No pick up/ drop off responsibilities and pet care would only consist of letting the dog out in our fenced yard (walks with the pup only if you feel comfortable and enjoy that!) Open to nanny share at our house or another family house in the neighborhood!

How to Hire a Nanny in Evanston, IL

Nanny Lane is an easy-to-use website that helps families find experienced local nannies in Evanston. Simplify your nanny search and find your perfect nanny today. Our services include background checks, nanny contracts, and nanny payroll.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Evanston, IL

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Evanston Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Evanston? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Evanston?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in IL? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
