Relevant experience where I also cared for children were…Preschool teacher; Summer Camps
Activities I enjoy doing with children…As a teacher, I have a play based philosophy. Children learn best through play! I love taking walks, hiking, beach days, park activities, dancing, singing/music, arts and crafts, playing chess/games, teaching emotional intelligence
and self-worth/confidence, nurturing talents/gifts and showing interest in what they like, etc.
The most important part about being a nanny…Being an extension of the parents! Often times, children spend most of the their time with me than they do with their parents. It's important that I raise them as if they were my own, but always acknowledging the parents and their lead, first. I take great pride in nurturing my babies so they can be successful human beings in a world that so desperately needs their unique touch and impact.
My experience with special needs children…I've worked with children with behavioral disorders and infants who were premature with different needs.
My favorite nanny moment…When I was younger, I had purple highlights in my braids and one of my children stood her ground with her mother wanting to wear purple clip-ins to preschool because she thought we would then be twins. It was cute/silly moment, but a necessary one being that I identify as African American and she was not. Further shows how racism is indeed taught and will always serve as very special moment for me.
