Relevant experience where I also cared for children were…Teacher's assistant for third and fourth grade. My main focus was helping our diverse learners who were challenged in reading, writing, and math.
Before and after-school care manager for three years. In this role I worked with kids between kindergarten and sixth grade. I would have as many as 30 students and our programs offered games, educational activities, and homework help.
Activities I enjoy doing with children…I absolutely love arts and crafts! I'm an artist myself so I love painting!
If kids are into video games, I play quite a lot at home!
I also love to find fun science experiments if a kid is interested. My major was chemistry so I love using my science brain.
Lastly, on a nice day its great to take a walk, go to the park, or play with chalk outside.
The most important part about being a nanny…Is patience!! I think that's important with anyone working with kids. You need to be patient in making a bond with the kids because not every child wants to be friends with a stranger so quickly. One needs to be patient when kids are getting ready, eating, going to the bathroom, or making choices. Haha kids get distracted, confused, lazy, or just don't know and it can't be helped sometimes! Lastly, patience is definitely needed for any learning portions especially homework. Kids learn at different speeds and have different skills so its always best to be patient when helping them and find what strategies work best.
My experience with special needs children…I've only ever dealt with children who have ADHD. I've worked with them on a educational level as well as a nanny level.
I mainly helped to keep these students focused when it came to class and homework. I have a great skill in patience.
My favorite nanny moment…Was when I made playdough with 9 year old boy. Making it was a lot of fun but then playing with it was even better. I made a crazy alien claw and he made little faces. We tried to do some stop-animation! I love being creative and artsy with kids.
